Researching West African youth's sexual and reproductive behaviour

In January 2019, Health Focus is starting the implementation of a KfW-funded study on West African youth’ knowledge and behavior regarding sexual and reproductive health. The study is part of the West African Health Organisation’s Regional Programme on Reproductive Health and HIV Prevention in the ECOWAS region and will inform the next programme cycle. For this study, Health Focus is collaborating with the German-based consumer activity research firm ifwom (Institute of Marketing and Word-of-Mouth Research) GmbH, as well as with local research partners in the six project countries Benin, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Mali, Niger and Sierra Leone. The study consists of a literature review and a quantitative KAP survey – a survey directed at young people from 15 to 24 years on their knowledge, their attitudes, and their practices regarding HIV prevention and contraception, condom use, reproductive health, and the quality of family planning services in their respective countries.
