Mental health and psycho-social support program for Syria
The Syrian conflict has a devastating and lasting impact on Syria and across the region. With the conflict having already entered its seventh year, it is now considered the largest humanitarian disaster since the 2nd World War. Furthermore, the needs of the affected populations continue to increase at an unprecedented scale.
Although health indicators were improving in Syria, many challenges existed already prior to the crisis, particularly in terms of staffing shortages. The protracted conflict has served to exacerbate the challenges faced by the health care system. It also increases the vulnerability to mental health and psychosocial distress and adversely affects the lives and safety of Syrians. As the crisis continues, the health situation is expected to worsen, taxing resilience, and increasing the risk to life and ability of affected Syrians to recover in the long term.
Health Focus GmbH therefore is working on improving access to appropriate mental health and psychosocial support services.
The overall objective of the project is to improve access to medical care and psychosocial support/psychotherapeutic treatment for the local population and IDPs in five provinces controlled by the moderated opposition (Aleppo, Idlib, Hama, Latakia and Daraa) and to support efforts to build capacities for needs-based psychosocial and psychotherapeutic support and treatment for the civilian population and medical personnel alike.
